Title: Temperature Compensated Diaphragm Meters

Abstract: In recent years, there has been a growing trend in the gas industry to change the location of gas meters from the inside of residences to the outdoors. There are two definite advantages to this approach. First, there is less danger of explosions due to gas leakage, and secondly, the meter reader can read the meter without entering the customers premises. Gas is normally sold by volume at standard pressure and temperature conditions. These conditions are usually 14.73 psia and 60 F. At these basic conditions, natural gas has an average heating value of 1,000 BTU/cf. Since the heating value of a cubic foot of gas varies with temperature and pressure, gas meters are sometimes equipped with auxiliary devices which provide corrected volumetric readings.
