Abstract: The tremendous increase in usage of natural gases and liquid hydrocarbons, predicted for the United States in the years to come, makes it imperative that new developments in subsurface safety valve equipment are adequate to satisfy safety and conservation requirements of the huge storage facilities that will be needed. It is well established that any one type of subsurface safety valve installation will not protect all types of storage wells and reservoirs, and be practical from an operational standpoint at the same time.
