Abstract: A major concern of the gas industry is the need to install a tracer wire adjacent to polyethylene (PE) gas pipe. GRI and Nicor Technologies are involved in a project that explores the development and use of a PE pipe that is embedded with magnetic particles and imprinted with a magnetic signal. This magnetic pipe can be located on its own, thus eliminating the need for tracer wire.
