Abstract: This program all came about as a result of a request from one of the fire chiefs in a community served by Boston Gas. What the chief wanted, was a complete explanation of the operation and maintenance of the Combustible Gas Indicator. To maximize the value of such a presentation, we built into the program the opportunity to not only explain and demonstrate the use of the equipment, but to enable the firefighters to get their hands on the equipment as well, so that they could perform certain functions covered in our presentation, such as zeroing the machine. Based on this initial request from the fire chief and the strategy we planned to use in conducting the program, it seemed only logical to call it our Hands-On Program for Firefighters.
