Abstract: The choices of communication options presently available are: radio/microwave (RS-232), telephone (land line and cellular), wire or short haul RS-485), VSAT very small aperture), LSAT, or a combination of these. LSAT is a DC powered satellite system in which the dish need not be aligned with the satellite. It was first used in the trucking industry. The following table highlights the main capabilities and limitations of each type of communication option available. A combination of methods often is needed, so dont overlook a mixed system.
