Abstract: Columbia Gulf Transmission Company (Columbia Gulf) is an open access, interstate natural gas pipeline company headquartered in Houston, Texas. The Columbia Gulf system has a capacity of more than 2 billion standard cubic feet per day. Columbia Gulf and the Bendix Engine Controls Division of Allied- Signal Inc. have worked together for the past seven years to investigate and develop a Control System to improve the performance of gas fired reciprocating compressor engines. This paper has been jointly prepared by Columbia Gulf and Bendix personnel. It discusses the result of the development program, the evolution of the Control System, and the operational experience with the Control System.
