Abstract: Due to the deregulation of natural gas wellheld prices and the development of expensive new sources of gas, the price of natural gas has increased sharply relative to the price of alternate fuels. As this trend continues, industrial gas customers will be more and more likely to switch to year-round combustion of alternate fuels. Such a shift would clearly have an economic impact on gas distribution companies and may well result in increased air pollution. In the face of these potential fuel use changes and the resulting economic and environmental impacts. Southern California Gas (SoCal Gas) contracted with Battelle Columbus Laboratories to develop a computer model to forecast three-year impacts on industrial natural gas consumption in its service territory.
