Abstract: A new equation of state has been developed to predict the speed of sound for natural gas mixtures to within an uncertainty of less than 0.1%. It is valid for mixtures containing methane, ethane, propane, normal butane, isobutane, normal pentane, isopentane, hexane, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide. The equation also predicts other thermodynamic properties of natural gas mixtures in a region of strong critical point influence with unprecedented accuracy.
