Abstract: A crucial challenge faces the U.S. Navy in the timely development of calibration and metrology support for a burgeoning arsenal of electrooptical weapon systems. This situation represents a unique opportunity for application of innovative approaches in measurement science to produce the requisite calibration support technology. A brief historical perspective is given to describe both the electro-optical systems deployed and those in development. , Current calibration support requirements are discussed and efforts to meet them are described. Our concepts for providing timely and cost effective calibration support are presented
