Abstract: For over 20 years now oil companys have been putting mobile devices in the hands of field operators and technicians to make data capture more efficient. Mobile projects, by this definition, are the implementation of computer systems for field personal to capture data on mobile devices that do NOT need an internet or network connection. Some 40%-60% of these projects are outright failures, and many more never achieve the desired benefits. In this paper the reasons for failure are examined and a review provided of the steps to be taken to make such endeavors successful.
