Abstract: The measurement of large volumes of natural gas, at high pressure, by the orifice meter method has become so widespread that it is now accepted as standard for the industry. Because of the very nature of large volume measurement, huge sums of money are involved. It is plain to see that the slightest deviation from the designs and standards governing orifice measurement could cost the gas industry large sums of money. Therefore, with this fact in mind we will proceed, in this paper, with the various tests and inspections which have been developed la insure that the lost revenue, due to inaccurate orifice meters, will he held to a minimum. The standards for the design, installation and calculation of flow of orifice meters, has been set forth in the publication entitled Orifice Metering of Natural Gas. Gas Measurement Committee Report Number Three, sponsored by the American Gas Association. The facts and figures contained in this report were derived by running many actual tests on orifice meters under various conditions that would be found in the field. The specifications, and tolerances indicated in this paper were based on information contained in this report.
