Abstract: On behalf of Secretary Schlesinger and the Department of Energy, I would like to thank the Chairman and members of the Operating Section of the American Gas Association for extending an invitation to DOE to participate in this years A.G.A, Distribution Conference. The natural gas distribution industry, which you represent, is to be applauded for its continued high standard of service to American consumers during a period of uncertainty due to the absence of an in-place national energy policy. Your monumental efforts over the past several years in seeking supplemental supplies and in fostering enduse conservation and conversion have assisted significantly in avoiding substantial nation-wide economic and social disruptions which might otherwise have occurred.
