Abstract: Oil producers have always had a requirement for metering of multiphase production from wells and this has traditionally been performed by separation of the well stream and metering of the separated gas and liquid rates, either by fixed or portable well test units. In recent years, developments of technology have opened up the possibility of multiphase metering of unseparated well streams. Several commercial systems are available and some have now been in operation for several years.
