Abstract: Fluid volume is the basis for most of the sale and purchase of hydrocarbons in the oil and natural gas industry, in the United States and around the world. As such, it is important that fluid volumes are measured, calculated, and corrected as accurately as possible. This paper outlines the fundamental derivation of fluid volumetric calculations at base conditions as made from measurements directly related to or used to infer volume, for both single-phase hydrocarbon gases and single-phase hydrocarbon liquids.
