Abstract: The movement of liquid petroleum products through pipelines has occurred for over 100 years. Todays liquid petroleum pipeline systems are generally grouped into two categories, refined products and crude oil. The following paper focuses on refined products pipelines only. An overview of product types, special handling issues for each type, and general pipeline operations is discussed to provide background information needed to understand the basics of a pipeline quality oversight program.
