Abstract: The philosophies underlying the need and values of driver training and equipment operator training have been thoroughly explored in our industry and the many papers previously presented are indicative of the magnitude and importance of the subject. My remarks are rather in the form of a report on the administration of these programs in the Baltimore Gas and Electric Company. As background, the transportation fleet numbers about 1,750 vehicles and approximately 400 units of associated mechanized equipment such as cranes, derricks, aerial buckets, air compressors, etc. This does not include special mobile construction equipment under the jurisdiction of various operating departments. There are 4,300 authorised company motor vehicle operators, 1,700 of whom are authorized to operate one or more types of associated mechanized equipment.
