Abstract: The results of testing performed on three different 4-inch multi-path ultrasonic flow meters (USMs) are reported. Tests were performed in high pressure natural gas flows over a pipe Reynolds number range of 8.5x105 to 1.0x107. Results were obtained with meters in fully developed flow and downstream of single elbow and two-elbows-out-of-plane installations, with and without flow conditioning. It was concluded that, where there is potential for other than fully developed flow conditions, flow conditioning should be used with 4-inch USMs to minimize the amount of metering error. Detailed description and discussion of the tests and results are presented in this paper.
