Abstract: Historically, utilities have exchanged meters either using a fixed period of time for exchanges or a mileage basis. Briefly. let us examine them and note the advantages and the disadvantages inherent in each system. Using this system, meters are exchanged at a fixed interval, which has been decided by either the utility or the public service commission. Some distinction may or may not be made between various types and sizes of meters. The advantage of using this method is that the work load can be forecast, not only for the meter shop, but also for the operating departments. This allows each area to budget with some degree of accuracy its manhours. to be spent in exchanging, testing and repairing of meters.
