Abstract: The importance of accurate and detailed material specifications cannot be overestimated. I doubt there is anyone who questions that statement. Most of us have lived with material specifications all our lives and since the establishment of the Minimum Federal Safety Standards published in August 1970, it has become a way of life. We cant operate without specifications. I really dont know too much about the history of specifications but I can tell you that 45 years ago at the old gas house in Norfolk, Virginia. I recall there were specifications covering fittings and pipe and how they were to be installed.
