Abstract: The recommended procedures to be followed during the periodic inspection of turbine meters in the field are detailed in manufacturers literature and in AGA Report #7. Generally, these procedures include a visual inspection of the meter mechanism and a spin-test. As stated in AGA Report #7, If the mechanical friction has not significantly changed, the meter is clean internally and the Internal portions of the meter show no damage, the meter should display no change in accuracy. If the mechanical friction has increased significantly, it would indicate that the accuracy characteristic of the meter at low flow rates has degraded. Note specifically that increased mechanical friction, as indicated by a significant decrease in spin time, initially affects the low flow accuracy of a turbine meter. This effect can be illustrated by reference to Figure 1.
