Abstract: All combustable gases, of which natural gas is our most important from the standpoint of production and distribution, have several distinguishing qualities of interest to both producers and consumers. These are, compostion represented by gas analysis, combustion characteristics described by flame appearance, velocity of flame propagation and combustion air requirements, - specific gravity or relative density when compared with air taken as 1.0 volume in terms of standard cubic feet, - and heating value as measured in BTUs per standard cubic foot.
