Abstract: The rotary positive displacement gas meter was first built in 1920 by the PH & FM ROOTS Company and the Connersville Blower Company, both located In Connersville, Indiana. The two companies joined to form the ROOTSCONNERSVILLE Blower, and In 1966 the gas meter line was formed into a new company named Dresser Measurement Division. The figure-8 lobed rotary gas meters made by this company are known as ROOTS meters. During the early 1960s, Rockwell International entered the market with a rotating vane design known as the ROTO-SEAL Meter, and late In the 1960s, Singer American Meter Company Introduced still another rotating vane design known as a CVM gas meter.
