Abstract: National Electric Code (NEC) design requirements for electronic equipment used in hazardous locations is a very important subject in todays environment where fast paced implementation of new electronic based technology/equipment is taking place within the natural gas industry. Given the explosive properties of natural gas and the inherent risk of electrical equipment producing a spark - the possibility of a catastrophic event exists if proper electrical safety precautions are not followed.
