Title: Cathodic Protection Levels Under Disbonded Coatings

Abstract: Cathodic protection levels under disbonded coatings and the role of cathodic protection in causing disbondment is of major concern. Experimental and field investigations carried out by others have been reported and summarized. The results seem to indicate that cathodic protection levels can be obtained under unbonded coatings with the proper application of protective current. In certain cases, excessive levels of cathodic protection may preclude successful current distribution under disbonded coatings as a result of shielding from hydrogen bubbles. The levels at which hydrogen evolution occurs and its impact on coating disbondment have not been conclusively proven.
