Abstract: A new test facility has been constructed at National Metrology Institute of Japan (NMD) for calibration of feed water flowmeters used at nuclear power stations at Reynolds numbers of up to 18 million. This very large Reynolds number is achieved at a flow rate of 3.33 m3/s (12 000 m3/h) and water temperature of 70 C in a 600 mm pipe. The DUT (Device under test) calibration is carried out by comparison method with reference of the working standard which is calibrated by the weighing tank and the ball prover system. This working standard is traceable to the national standard of water flowrate in Japan. The expanded uncertainty of this facility is 0.077% (k 2). This paper describes the concept of the new facility, calibration method and the fundamental uncertainty estimation.
