Abstract: Programmable conirollers (PC) have been in use for 15 years to control processes formerly operated by electromechanical components. PCs can perform relay logic, counting. liming, arithmetic, data manipulation, computer interfacing, and much more. Proven to be more cost effective, versatile, and reliable than relay control systems, PCs are used in a wide variety of applications, including gas meter proving. This paper will define and describe the components of a PC and how they have been incorporated into bell proving systems.
