Abstract: There are numerous instances in the U.S. and Europe where industrial waste has contaminated properties. Many of these contaminated properties have been abandoned due to the excessive cost of site remediation. The abandonment of brownfields poses problems not only for public health and the environment, but also for the economic well being of the urban areas in which they are located. Industry has opted to develop clean properties, greenfields, in lieu of site reuse. Since many of these properties are in prime urban locations, the reclamation and redevelopment of contaminated sites in urban brownfields has become an important international issue,
