Abstract: Metering a fluids mass flow rate in a pipe with me thods that do not require an external fluid density prediction is an attractive option in many flow meter applications. Such meter designs tend to be described as mass flow me ters. The development of a simple, robust and compact gas mass flow meter concept is d escribed here. Gas flow must ultimately be metered by mass flow. A steady gas flow throughout a pipeline has a constant gas mass flow rate but a va rying volume flow rate. A gas mass flow rate reading is an absolute statement of the g as quantity flowing in the system. However, a gas volume flow rate reading is only tru e at the meter location.
