Title: Critical Areas In Design Specifications For Derricks & Aerial Devices
Author: Walter E. Caesar

Abstract: The aerial basket as a utility work tool has come a long way since the initial design developed to pick apples or cherries. These early machines evolved through various stages from steel beams and wide stance outriggers to the broad range of units we see on the market today. This same evolution can be seen with derricks which developed from the early stiff leg derricks to the hydraulic foldover derricks, to the present day rotating head corner mount and center mount derricks. Caution must be used in preparing or reviewing specifications for the design or purchase of this type of equipment.
