Title: Odorization
Author: J. Ronald Pope
Source: 1980 International School of Hydrocarbon Measurement
Year Published: 1980
Abstract: NATURAL GAS, AS IT IS OBTAINED FROM GAS WELLS, IS BOTH ODORLESS AND COLORLESS. IT IS COMPOSED PRIMARILY OF METHANE, BUT IT ALSO CONTAINS SMALL AMOUNTS OF ETHANE, PROPANE, AND OTHER HEAVIER HYDROCARBONS. ALTHOUGH THESE HEAVIER HYDROCARBONS HAVE A FAINT SWEETISH SMELL, NATURAL GAS AS A WHOLE HAS NO ODOR DUE TO ITS LARGE CONTENT OF METHANE, WHICH IS ODORLESS.
