Abstract: You, as well as many others, are probably wondering, WVhat the heck happened to the audit trail on these blasted electronic meters? As time has passed and the migration to Electronic Gas Measurement Devices has begun to occur, the transition has been anything but smooth. The migration began arguably in the 1970s and, up until 1993, there was not even a Standard published that pulled together the information required for the audit trail. In the industry, all companies that wanted to be on the leading edge of technology were doing their own thing. This performance gave mixed results that make for interesting contractual language. In 1993, American Petroleum Institute (API) published Chapter 21 - Flow Measurement Using Electronic Metering Systems, Section 1 - Electronic Gas Measurement. This triggered the beginning of the discussions associated with the utilization and the development of the electronic devices of today.
