Abstract: The solution of problems concerning gas measurement is an attractive application of digital computer systems. Complicated formulae for representing physical properties and elaborate thermodynamic relationships are required for accurate calculation of a volume of natural gas. Since the gas measurement function may also represent practically all of a companys revenue and a substantial part of its expenditure, it is essential too that calculations be performed as quickly as possible. The use of modern, high speed computer systems has permitted a big step toward the ultimate method performing all table-lookup and arithmetical operations quickly and automatically after the introduction of a minimum of basic data.
