Abstract: The American Petroleum Institute (API) and the American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) have written joint standards to provide accuracy and uniformity in sediment and water measurement. Specifically, the Manual of Petroleum Measurement Standards, Chapter 10 covers various methods of sediment and water determination. The most common method used in the field is sampling and (S&W) content by field centrifuge. This paper will discuss monitoring (S&W) using a capacitance probe as the measuring device.
