Title: Leak Management System

Abstract: The Leak Management System at Boston Gas begins with a special phone number printed on the customers gas bill. A call to this number is positioned at the top of the queue for immediate response. The computer prompts the operator with specific questions and, based on the responses, will assign a leak priority. The telephone representative may also advise the customer to evacuate the premises. The leak order sets off an audible alarm at the printer in Dispatch, which must be physically released. In addition, a color display terminal provides the Dispatcher with the individual processing status of every leak order. Service manuals provide guidelines to be followed by personnel when dispatching or responding to emergency calls. The Basic Operating System Simulator (BOSS) system or video game has been developed to improve the service representatives skills in leak investigation. We are also in the process of installing a Computer Aided Dispatch System, which should further improve our ability to respond to emergencies.
