Abstract: Various components of processing plants are subject to corrosion to some degree. The control and mitigation of corrosion is essential to economical operation and the protection of life and property. In order lo be able to conirol corrosion, we must be able to determine where corrosion is occurring. There are many methods which may be used singly or in combination to provide information on corrosion rates. A number of the methods will be discussed in this paper. Other publications dealing with corrosion detection are referenced for those who may wish lo dig deeper into the subject. Some of the corrosion monitoring instruments which will be discussed require the installation of suitable access fittings into piping and vessels. When new plants are being designed, the designers should consult with corrosion and process engineers regarding the number and location of corrosion test points and inhibitor injection points.
