Abstract: Custody transfer and control of hydrocarbon liquids is very common in industry. The accurate measurement of density can result in dollar savings and better control of hydrocarbon liquids. Pressure and temperature corrections are often very difficult to use in ethane-rich or ethylene-rich streams. Volumetric shrinkages can be as high as 5%. The density of a stream is one important process variable that can provide useful information concerning composition, concentration, and mass flow. This paper will discuss density and its application to liquid hydrocarbon measurement.
