Abstract: The current status of offshore oil exploration in the United States is reviewed. Areas included are the intensely competitive Gulf of Mexico, the disappointing Atlantic, the California offshore and the various tested and untested basins off Alaska. Future sale plans and the problems industry faces are discussed for each of these areas. I will review the current status of offshore exploration throughout the United States and, al the same time, give you some idea of what the future holds for Industry in each of the offshore areas.
