Abstract: In 1981, the Gas Research Institute (GRI) determined that an accelerated effort in appliance technology development was needed to quickly develop new systems to meet the needs of gas utilities, ratepayers, and appliance manufacturers. GRI perceived that a Gas Appliance Technology Center (GATC) would meet this growing need for a focused, reliable, comprehensive source of appliance technology, The primary objective of the GATC is to introduce and accelerate the development of improved energy-efficient, gas-fired utilization equipment for residential and commercial consumers. The GATC will accomplish this objective by evaluating equipment performance improvements obtained with new technologies and working with manufacturers to apply these new technologies to advanced appliances and related equipment.
