Abstract: Although we are the oldest gas company in the United States, having been founded in 1816, we are a newcomer in the field of plastic distribution systems. Our present distribution system consists of 4,005 miles of main piping of which 2,409 miles or approximately 60.1% is steel and 39.9% is cast iron. Of this amount of steel mains 2,149 miles or 89.2% is in our H.P. (i.e.. 99 psig) system which constitutes 53.6% of our total main distribution system. The mains in our system cover an area of 560 square miles and provide service to 480.630 customers.
