Abstract: The present paper summarizes the main results obtained within a research programm undertaken at CERT about the dynamic behaviour of vortex type flowmeters when they are used in perturbed flow conditions. A combined approach using experiments performed on water and aerodynamic facilities (velocity and pressure measurements, frequency analysis, visualization and image processing) and a flow computation by the Random Vortex Method is used to analyse the effect of steady velocity perturbations, blockage ratio and Reynolds number on the Strouhal frequency value and stability.
