Abstract: In order to succesfiilly prove any metering instrument with pulsed outputs, i.e. turbine meters and positive displacement meters, the American Petroleum Institute (API) states that the metering instrument must have a resolution of one part in ten thousand. This requires that the metering mechanism generate a minimum of 10,000 pulses between detectors during the proving interval.
