Abstract: Natural gas flow rate measurement errors at field meter stat ions can result from the inst allation configuration, the calibration of the meter at conditions other than the actual operating conditions, or the degradation of meter performance over time. The best method for eliminating th ese or other sources of erro r is with in-situ (on-site) calibration of the meter. That is, the measurement ac curacy of the field meter station should be verified under actual operating conditions by comparing to a master meter or prover. A number of field provers have been developed for operation at high line pressure s and flow rates. (For purposes of this discussion, a high gas flow rate is any flow greater than 3,000 actual cubic feet per hour or (85 m 3 /h) at pressures up to 1,440 psig (10 MPa).)
