Abstract: A new lype of gas flow reference system under development at the National Bureau of Standards results in direct, accurate and precise mass flow rale measurements. The closed loop system allows contmuous flow of nitrogen gas at line pressures of 4.1 MPa (600 psia) and at ambient temperatures. The gas flow is then cooled to liquid nitrogen temperature, and weighed at low pressures and at a density of up to 17 times the density in the gas phase.
