Abstract: Flowmeter installation effects are the result of differences between the conditions in the field and those in a calibration facility. This paper provides an introduction to two of the most common field conditions: velocity profile distortion and swirl. The paper is divided into the following section: A simple description of the velocity profile. The profile and swirl produced by single and double elbows. Some effects on orifice, turbine and ultrasonic meters. The use of flow conditioners.
