Title: Improved Backfill Stabilization Materials

Abstract: Backfilling and repaying over trenches and excavations for gas distribution piping leak repairs is a costly operation for gas utilities. The use of poor techniques or unsuitable material in the backfill operation may cause pavements to subside, resulting in hazardous potholes. In addition, some backfill materials may be corrosive to metal piping or hazardous for work crews to handle. There is a need to develop an improved material which can prevent excessive subsidence and reduce construction and maintenance costs.
