Title: A Chipless Pipe Cutter
Author: James E. Huebler

Year Published: 1992
Abstract: This paper describes the development of a chipless pipe cutter for making hot-taps on steel and cast iron pipes. The technique being developed for Southern CaHfornia Gas (SoCalGas) by the Institute of Gas Technology (IGT) is based on electric discharge cutting. It offers many advantages over mechanical cutters including the elimination of chips and a new form of hottap machine that is much lighter and easier to handle.
