Abstract: This paper describes the development of the gas system rehabilitation program of the Minneapolis Gas Company. In an attempt to respond to the request to comment on the major issues mentioned in the Task Group Report on Planned Replacement. I have developed this paper under the major headings of that report. In recent years at Minnegasco, the reasons for the replacement program are falling into the following order of importance I) public improvement, (2) code compliance, (3) interference, and (4) performance. Minnegasco has always replaced mains and services where evidence could be assembled to show that they had become hazardous or uneconomical to maintain. In the early 1960s Minnegasco went through the growing pains that acatmpany a major modification of policy. Henceforth in any street that was to have high quality permanent paving installed.
