Abstract: The turbine meter has been used in gas measurement for over ninety five years. In the last fifty years, extensive research and development work has generated significant advances in turbine gas meter technology. Those advances, in combination with the experience gained from extensive field testing and applications over a wide variety of operating conditions, have resulted in significant improvements in meter performance and reliability. Outstanding progress has been made in the areas of rotor and flow passage design thrust load balancing bearing selection, protection, and lubrication internal flow conditioning high pressure calibration field checking and the development of national and international standards. Today, the turbine gas meter is recognized and accepted for accurate and reliable custody transfer in the gas industry.
