Abstract: Before we discuss our principle subject of Basic Gas Contracts, let us take a very brief look at the history of natural gas, Among the first people to have utilized natural gas as a fuel were the Chinese who in search of salt produced natural gas from wells drilled to a depth of approximately 2,000 feet and then transported the gas through bamboo pipelines to the places of consumption. Natural gas was also known to have been used by the Japanese as early as 615 B.C. Other cultures also utilized natural gas from these early beginnings until the natural gas industry was born in 1821 in the village of Fredonia, New York.
