Abstract: The immediate and long-term support of existing buried gas facilities can be detrimentally affected by trench excavations for construction of adjacent new services. This paper presents the geotechnical considerations for evaluating the Zone of Influence caused by trench excavations and ihe critical importance of the construction and backfill procedures.
